That Fucking Tank, Russian Blue and Infrared Bear

The Bell, Devizes Friday 12th July

Don’t look down, don’t look down... that guitar was talking in incessant repeats...the vertigo inducing combo of slamming drums and muscular riffs trying to pull the floor away... the cymbal action, like metallic claws all over those frets... some fast acting corrosion for the ears... Wasn’t convinced by That Fucking Tank at the start but they quickly suckered me in... that insistent gnaw, that swerving restlessness of riffery... bright and loud switching fret action with plenty of flinty arrows... catching odd forays of Sabbath free floating... This duo certainly weren’t penned in by any limitations... locking horns convincingly...a stop/start prairie dog chewing plenty of bone and spewing the rhythmic goo like a late night takeaway making spatter cakes on the pavement... left my ears hissing like a pit full of vipers...

Two bands were supporting... really liked the first, think they were called Infra-red Bear... another drums and guitar combo... an amphetamine loaded affair of veiny chordage, and panel punched skin... pleasure surfing the angles and retractions... A few shouty hardcore yelling moments creaming the candy, tickling my inner ‘Rollins’. Their soundscloud just doesn't do them justice, capture that live bite!...

Russian Blue were good too, classic 'current crop' indie... that interweave of bass and two guitars incredibly tight, rewardingly wrought... nailing the drums with plenty of conversation and Vampire Weekend lyrical shifts... they even jabbed me with a few overdriven pedal punches, but as lasting furrows go The Tanks totally stole the night's crown...
